Car Detection

Algorithms for good.pptx

Have you always wanted to know how much CO2 your car releases? Want to estimate this from just a photo of your car?

Then look no further! In this month’s TechLab, we will present an Artificial Intelligence-based tool that uses image recognition to calculate the estimated output of emissions from a car.

We will show you how we could use modern algorithms to automatically detect car models from photos or videos, and notify the driver that they might emit quiet some CO2 during their ride. The idea was to create this tool on the street (for ex. attached to traffic lights) and show drivers an estimation of their carbon footprint.

The project is all based on open source software, setup in a short time and may be adapted to different areas. This proof of concept was developed by the Techlab in cooperation with Greenpeace Germany.
